The Still’s Beer of the Week: Red Hydrant by Big Dog’s Draft House

Football season is officially underway, and so begin new traditions or weird “good luck” habits and rituals to ensure your team wins each week. Since The Still is located in the heart of Las Vegas, preference for UNLV, The Raiders, and Nevada teams is a given, and this week’s craft beer represents our local loyalty–and maybe a little bit of superstition. Come into The Still this week and try a frothy, cold Red Hydrant Brown Ale from local brewery Big Dog’s Draft House no matter your team or your traditions–unless you’re one of those who stops washing their underwear at the start of the season.

Red Hydrant

From: Las Vegas, Nevada

Brewery: Big Dog’s Draft House

Style: Brown Ale

ABV: 5.6%

IBU: 10

Pairs Best With: Grilled Chicken Club Sandwich

Why It Slaps: In 1993, Big Dog’s Draft House became the first brewery in Nevada since Prohibition. They were a beer oasis in a literal desert, and because of them, 50 other breweries have come to Nevada to quench the craft beer thirst of Nevadans. This malty and balanced brown ale took home the Gold at the Great American Beer Festival in 2015 and at the World Beer Cup in 2006 and 2010, so it’s literally a winner.

Review: “Listen. I’m an American. But when it’s football season, I’m a Nevadan first. I’m only drinking Nevadan beers and the tears of other teams.”
